Meet Kristie Tyson, the heart and soul behind Uplift and Inspire Counseling Services! With 17 years of experience as a counselor, Kristie has dedicated her career to helping others since graduating from Truman State University in 1994. She also earned her Master’s degree from Lindenwood University.

 

Kristie’s journey in the social service field has taken her through a variety of roles—working with juveniles, in foster care, behavioral schools, residential treatment facilities, substance abuse programs, and career development. Her passion for helping others shines through in everything she does, and she believes that everyone deserves access to quality mental health care.

 

Specializing in trauma, anxiety, and depression, Kristie is trained in several therapeutic methods, including EMDR, DBT, CBT, and TF-CBT. She tailors her approach to meet each person’s unique needs, using a variety of tools to help them reach their goals.

 

When she’s not working, Kristie loves being a wife and mom to two wonderful young men. She’s active in her church and community and enjoys spending quality time with her family, watching basketball, swimming, and soaking up the sun during warm-weather activities. Whether she’s supporting her clients or cheering for her family, Kristie brings warmth and enthusiasm to every aspect of her life!

Hi there! I'm a Professional School Counselor, and Counselor in Training (CIT), and a Professional Groomer, juggling a variety of roles with enthusiasm.

 

 With over 15 years in the education field, I’ve had the pleasure of working with K-12 students and young adults in various capacities. My journey includes being a Substitute Teacher, Youth Specialist, Positive Behavior Interventions and Support (PBIS) Specialist, Therapeutic Mentor, Teacher, School Counselor, and Counselor. I'm passionate about career counseling and deeply knowledgeable in trauma-informed care, restorative practices, and social-emotional learning. I love using a person-centered approach, blending Reality Therapy, Existential Therapy, and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) in my individual and group therapy sessions.

 

I hold a Bachelor of Science in Education from Harris-Stowe State University (HSSU), which I completed in 2013, and I graduated from Leonard's Barber College in 2015. I earned my Master of Arts in Counseling from Lindenwood University (LU) in 2020  I was honored to receive the Outstanding Alumni Leader Under 40 Award from HSSU in 2022 and was named Teacher of the Year for 2023-2024!

 

 I’ve enjoyed being part of various organizations, including the Majestic Assembly (2009-2013), Sigma Tau Delta, the English Honorary Organization (2009-Present), and Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Incorporated (2009-Present).

 

 Outside of work, I’m a proud husband and dad to four wonderful kids (three girls and one boy). I love spending time outdoors, whether it’s kayaking, camping, or just enjoying nature. I’m also a big fan of anime, manga, and playing chess. You’ll often find me roller skating, cooking up a storm, diving into video games, swimming, working on home projects, racing, traveling, or cruising on my motorcycle. I’m always up for an adventure and love meeting new people!
